Welcome to the দুই টাকা Blog!

Welcome to the blog where all my thoughts, insights, and perhaps a few oddball ideas are priced at exactly… দুই টাকা (two taka).

Why “দুই টাকা”?

Well, “two cents” might be the standard currency of unsolicited advice and offhand opinions, but in Bangla, “দুই টাকা” (dui taka) has a bit of a twist. See, back in Bangladesh, “dui taka” can mean something cheap, but in my case, it’s more of a nostalgic goldmine. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve my grandmother, my Dadima, handing me two shiny ek-taka (1 taka) coins for completing many multiplication times-table. This দুই টাকা was my ticket to Anwar uncle’s corner store, where a world of candy and chocolates awaited.

Naturally to me, dui taka is a currency of encouragement, childhood thrills, and yes, treasured opinions.

What is the value of “দুই টাকা”?

At the time of writing, 2 Bangladeshi taka (BDT) is worth about 17 cents. So, it seems my thoughts carry a bit more weight in BDT. If you’re curious, here’s what “two cents” USD are worth in Bangladeshi taka today. Gone are the days where it could buy one a piece of candy…

Welcome again, and here’s to many more “dui taka” thoughts!
