Business Values
There is no doubt in my mind that one day I will be running my own business. I really don’t know how to rationalize why I would want to do so but it really does feel like a calling that I need to address. Here is a list of values (hopefully growing one) that I have pondered over the years that I would like to implement in my business one day from day one:
- Never punish initiatives - reward them!
- Liberate workers with ownership of work
- We take pride in what we build
- We do it because no one else can do it and it needs to be done
- We will always encourage you to follow your dreams and passions - even if it hurts us
- Optimistic in everything
- Be kind to each other
- We believe in the greater good
- Never stop innovation, never stop iterations
- Authority can and should be questioned
- Automation and delegation of tasks are rewarded as long as they get done
- Always use the latest tools. Integrate only stable and secure parts
- Recruitment and culture is what defines an institution
- Promotions/power should never be given to someone solely on the basis that they possess information they are not willing to share
- deadlines = deadlines \(/ \pi\) for MVPs. The rest of the time -> we have fun with the product
- One shall receive \(1/\pi\) times any asymmetry revenue flow one creates
- Chain of commands are important - only mess with it if you have a better sequence of succession
- Institutions before individuals
- Make products/services that bring people joy
- Create products that have cultural significance
- Create systems that motivate fully transparent communication between employees and the executives
- Always give the customers more than what they pay for
- If we work on services/products that democratizes privilege we will always have a market
- We recognize great value is created on top of networks
- We would much rather starve than serve the enemies of America
- We want “busy bees” - folks whose task is to explore random opportunities for no short term gain but simply to get exposure to positive luck
- If we are providing a service where women and children don’t feel safe - WE ARE DOING THINGS WRONG!
- My company and its constituents will come first over me. ALWAYS.
Please remember, these are just my personal thoughts at time \(t\), where \(t\) denotes the current point in my mental timeline, subject to stochastic jumps, non-Markovian memory effects, and frequent Bayesian updates. All opinions are therefore functions of \(t\) and may be discontinuous and non-differentiable. They don’t represent the views of any organization, past, present, or future, and shouldn’t be taken as advice or policy. I’ll do my best to keep this list updated as I grow and change myself :)
